Preventative – Cleaning and X-rays

Dental Exam

A comprehensive dental exam will be done at Absolute Smile by one of our dentists during your first visit. The exam will include x-rays which will determine the tooth and its root positions and will also check to see if there is any decay or bone loss. X-rays are very important because they will provide the dentist with information that was not visible during the exam and cleaning. After x-rays are evaluated the dentist can complete a treatment plan to treat any problems that the patient may have, such as decay, bone loss, and problems inside the tooth or below the gum line. A full mouth series of x-rays is recommended for all new patients that come to Absolute Smile. The dentist checks your face, neck, tongue, lips, gums, tissues, and throat for any signs of oral cancer. When the dentist checks the gum and bone they are trying to see if you have any signs of periodontal disease.  Our dentists provide a full examination, they do not only concentrate on new treatments, they also check any existing treatments to make sure that there aren’t any problems. Absolute Smile strives to maintain good dental health for all our patients.

Cleaning

Registered Dental Hygienists are normally the ones who professionally clean the patient’s teeth in our offices. They remove all the plaque on the surface of your teeth. Sometimes plaque builds up and hardens which forms calculus. It is important for the Hygienist to remove calculus and plaque because this is bacteria that produce toxins and will inflame the gums. If the inflammation continues and you do not get your teeth cleaned, it can result in periodontal disease, which is not curable. Studies show periodontal disease is directly linked to heart problems. Once a patient has periodontal disease they can only maintain and stabilize the disease.
