Crowns

If your tooth is broken, fractured, has undergone a root canal procedure, has a large filling, or if you are just interested in cosmetic enhancement, our dentists at Absolute Smile would recommend a painless crown procedure. Crowns are used to restore the entire tooth’s surface. The crown fully cups over the tooth that is above the gum line to restore the tooth back to its original size and shape. Dental crowns encase the entire tooth so the crown becomes the tooth’s new outer surface. Absolute Smile recommends dental crowns because it protects and strengthens the tooth’s structure which cannot be restored with fillings or other restorations.

A crown procedure only requires the patient to come to the Absolute Smile for two appointments. The first visit the dentist will prep the tooth, take an impression for the final crown, and make a temporary crown. The dentist will place the temporary crown and send the impression to the lab for the lab technician to fabricate the final crown. The turnaround time on average is about two weeks. Once the crown is delivered back to the office, the patient comes in for the second appointment and the dentist removes the temporary crown, cleans the tooth, and cements the permanent crown.

When choosing to have a crown placed, make sure to ask what type of crown the dentist will be using. There are several types of crowns a dentist can use, most dentists use  porcelain.

Porcelain crowns are the same color as your tooth and are considered a durable restoration procedure. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color of your teeth giving you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile.
