Bridges

A bridge is a fixed appliance that consists of 3 or more crowns which go over the anchoring teeth (these are your natural teeth) and the teeth that are missing are filled by creating additional crowns to fill the gaps for the missing teeth. Bridges are used when a patient is trying to fill the space of missing teeth, maintain facial shape, prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position, restore chewing and speaking ability, restore your smile, and upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance. Bridges are also used as a tooth replacement alternative to implants.

There are several types of bridges. The “traditional bridge” is the most popular type and is usually made of porcelain fused to metal. Instead of placing a bridge made of porcelain with a metal base, which, years later, can often result in unsightly dark lines at the gum line, Absolute Smile can now painlessly restore your smile with an all-porcelain bridge. Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years, however they may need replacement or need to be re-cemented due to normal wear.

The bridge procedure normally takes 2 visits. The first appointment the dentist Absolute Smile will prep the 2 anchoring teeth by removing a portion of the enamel to allow for a crown. Then the dentist has to take an impression to send to the dental laboratory where the lab technicians will fabricate the permanent bridge. You will get a temporary bridge which the dentist will make for you until the permanent one comes back from the lab. During your second appointment, your permanent bridge will be carefully checked, adjusted, and cemented to achieve a proper fit.

Why you may need to do the bridge?

Because you may have one or more missing teeth.

Why do you need to do it as soon as possible?

Because when teeth are missing the other teeth start shifting, breaking, and the whole facial structure is changing due to bone loss.
