Invisible braces can improve the appearance of your teeth, but did you know that they can also improve your overall oral health? Traditionally, we think of dental braces as the solution to fixing crooked teeth or closing gaps. While it’s true that dental braces give you a beautiful straight smile, they will also give you healthier teeth and gums.

Invisible braces will help you look better and feel better by preventing the physical problems associated with misaligned teeth. By correcting your smile with invisible braces now, you might even eliminate the need for dentures later on in life.

Let’s start with oral hygiene. Crooked and overlapping teeth are much harder to clean than straight teeth. Imperfections in the alignment of your teeth can create crevices that you’re tooth brush is unable to reach. Food can easily become trapped in these places, leading to decay.

Invisible braces solve this problem by straightening your teeth. You’ll be able to thoroughly access all four sides of each tooth when you brush and floss. Invisible braces will help with long-term cavity prevention and reduce your risk of gum disease.

Another problem caused by misaligned teeth is an improper bite. Malocclusion, the technical term for a bad bite, can lead to numerous problems with your oral and overall health. Unless properly aligned with dental braces, a bad bite can cause uneven wear and tear on your teeth. Your invisible braces will correct your bite, preventing years of wear and stress that could lead to the need for crowns and alleviating.

A bad bite can also prevent you from properly chewing your food. With some teeth having to work harder than others, certain bones and muscles in your jaw will become stressed. Again, straightening your teeth with invisible braces can fix this issue, and head off potential, and serious, problems with your jaw in the future.

An improper bite can also lead to headaches and pain in your neck and jaw. You might be surprised to learn that dental braces could put an end to chronic headaches. If misaligned teeth are the root cause of your pain, invisible braces can eliminate your pain, which will only make you feel better physically but will also improve your mood.

Like a bad bite caused by misaligned teeth, an overbite can also cause uneven wear on your enamel. An excess amount of stress is put on your front lower teeth. Wearing dental braces will your overbite and prevent the possible chipping of your front lower teeth.

If your teeth do not overlap at all, that is called an “open bite.” An openbite wears on your back teeth, which could ultimately lead to a need for crowns or dental veneers. Openbites are another problem that dental braces can correct.

In addition to your physical health, invisible braces can also help improve your outlook on life. A beautiful smile increases your self-esteem and self-confidence. With a little help from dental braces, you can find yourself becoming more outgoing. And you’re guaranteed to smile more than ever before!

The concept of invisible braces has been around since the 1940s. However, it’s only been within the past decade that they have soared in popularity. You’ve probably heard of this new type of dental braces, but you might not know how they work. Really, the concept and overall process is simple.

Invisible braces are different

Let’s start by throwing out everything you think and know about standard dental braces. Invisible braces have revolutionized the world of orthodontics. From start to finish, the process is more pleasant that you would ever have imagined possible. Be ready to open your mind to the possibility of wearing dental braces – you’ve got more options than you think.

Arguably, the phrase “invisible braces” is a misnomer. They are only like other dental braces in that they permanently straighten your teeth over a period of time. In virtually every other way, invisible braces are totally different from traditional dental braces. They’re comfortable, removable, and undetectable by others. If you’ve been reluctant to get dental braces, you’ll find that invisible braces will eliminate all your worries.

The basics of invisible braces

Invisible braces are basically a plastic tray, referred to as an “aligner.” You can think of them as being similar to mouth guards used by athletes, or night guards used by individuals who clench their teeth. They have also been compared to over-the-counter teeth whitening trays.

These plastic aligners, however, are custom made to fit your teeth. In place of the brackets and wires of used in traditional dental braces, the plastic tray exerts the necessary force to permanently move your teeth.

How invisible braces work

Invisible braces are a series of trays. The straightening process is gradual, taking place in predictable increments. After your current aligner has moved your teeth a given amount, you’ll be fitted for a new aligner. Each aligner moves you closer to the finished product – your beautiful new smile!

Unlike metal dental braces, there is no painful tightening of screws. Progress is achieved by simply swapping out one aligner for another.

How invisible braces are made

As mentioned above, invisible braces are made from plastic. The plastic is extremely durable, made from medical grade materials. Most dental braces are made from metal, which has sharp edges and is difficult to clean. With this new technology, orthodontists can correct your smile with material that’s comfortable and practically invisible.

Each aligner is made specifically for you. That is, the trays aren’t a “one size fits all” product. Through x-rays, impressions, and 3-D computer imaging, your orthodontist will be able to custom create trays that perfectly fit your teeth. Each step in the process is mapped out, allowing you to see the end result and decide in advance whether you’re happy with it. If not, you and your orthodontist can work together to adjust the plan. That’s an exciting benefit that traditional dental braces don’t offer.

Conclusion

Hundreds of thousands of people have used invisible braces to achieve the smile of their dreams. Through a series of custom-made plastic trays, invisible braces achieve the same results as standard dental braces. Invisible braces are an option in the vast majority of cases, but not everyone will be a candidate. An orthodontist will help you determine whether they are the right choice for you.

Preserving an Affected Tooth with Root Canal Treatment

Defining a Root Canal prior to Root Canal Treatment

A root canal is the common dental reference as to the major canal that is biologically structured within the dentin of each tooth. As what is considered a natural cavity in each tooth, root canals are comprised of dental pulp chambers and main canals, along with additional and intricate anatomical branches. Such branches serve as connective conduits in one of two manners – connecting root canals together or to the tooth’s root surface. The core of root canals are clinically termed as dental pulp, which consists of extensively vascular and dense tissue of a connective nature.

Necessitation for Root Canal Treatment

In the event that a tooth either experiences caries or fractures, microorganisms, which contain sources of bacteria from byproducts of the oral flora, gain access to the pulp chamber, the root canals or both. These varieties of bacteria can lead to infection and inflammation of the affected pulp’s tissue. Should this condition not be diagnosed in a timely matter, as it can be irreversible, the option, amid the practice of dentistry, for both alleviation and preserving the afflicted tooth, is of an endodontic procedure labeled as root canal treatment.

Anatomy of a Tooth requiring Root Canal Treatment

Each tooth’s center is a hallow region that contains a consistency of soft tissue, clinically termed as the pulp. The pulp is contained within what is referred to as a pulp chamber. A relatively broad distance separated the chewing surface of the tooth from the pulp chamber. Anatomically, the pulp chamber is connected at the very tip of the tooth’s root, by way of minuet and hollow canals, that simulate pipes, which characteristically define a root canal. Under normal conditions, the teeth have from one to four canals. Within this range, those teeth positioned at the rear of the mouth will tend to possess the most canals. Such canals channel through the center of the roots. These canals function as pathways for both blood vessels that provide nutrition for teeth, as well as nerves, which travel the same passageways. The occurrence of a cavity upon the outside of a tooth can, upon its intensity, create an opening that will permit bacteria to seep into the soft tissues of the pulp, which, ultimately, can lead to infection. If such a condition does not receive root canal treatment, the infection can affect the jaw as well.

Analyzing Root Canal Treatment

The administration of root canal treatment is practiced through endodontic therapy. Such therapeutic procedure alleviates infection while protecting the still unaffected tooth from further invasion by destructive bacteria. The objectives in an endodontist or skilled dentist’s administering root canal treatment to an afflicted patient are to preserve the tooth, completely extract the affected nerves, tissue, blood vessels and relevant cellular entities, as well as to relieve pain. Secondary root canal treatment includes subsequent cleaning, decontamination and cleaning of the hollow regions within the depths of the affected tooth. These practices, inclusive within the administering of root canal treatment, incorporate the utilization of minuet files and irrigating solutions, along with a type of inert filling referred to as obturation.

Capping Root Canal Treatment

To protect the preserved tooth from fracture, as it composition is now brittle following root canal treatment therapy, a crown is placed upon the tooth.

When Wisdom Teeth Extraction is Deemed Wisely

Defining Wisdom Teeth, in Relevance to Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Within the oral cavity of the mouth, teeth, clinically categorized as third molars, present themselves among people, during the age span of from sixteen to twenty-four years old. Generally, the majority of individuals will have four wisdom teeth, however, occasionally, more or less of these molars will present themselves. The term, wisdom teeth, was implied, due to that these molars appear within the oral cavity much later than any other form of teeth, as well as emerging through the gums at an age when people have gained more wisdom than during childhood.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction upon Impactions

In regards to the field of dentistry, exist four separate categories of impacted wisdom teeth that include mesioangular impaction, vertical impaction, distoangular impaction and horizontal impaction. Each category will vary as to the particular practice of teeth extraction implored, based upon how these molars come into presentation. The most common form of wisdom teeth are of the mesioangular impacted variety, whereas the tooth is presented forward in its angle. Next, in commonality, are those impacted molars referenced as vertical, meaning that the tooth, in its entirety, failed to erupt completely through the line of the gum. When a tooth has been noted to be backwards, pointed to the mouth’s rear, in eruption, it is determined to be a distoangular impaction. A rare type of impacted wisdom teeth is that of the horizontal variation, to be described as the tooth angling significantly forward, within the mouth, in direction, and developing into the roots of the second molars.

Accessibility in Wisdom Teeth Extraction

On the scale of complexity, mesioangular impacted wisdom teeth pose the highest degree of difficulty in removal, while impactions of the distoangular variety present the least challenge within wisdom teeth extraction. Another dental approach, is to evaluate if such molars are still fully encased within the bone of the jaw. Should the wisdom tooth be determined as being still infused to the jawbone, such an impaction is classified bony, in type. On the other side of the spectrum, a soft issue impaction is when the tooth is in between the jawbone and gum line, though has yet to have erupted into any level of presentation.

Extremes in Molars for Wisdom Teeth Extraction

In some instances, a wisdom tooth may not erupt fully out from the bed of the gum. Upon such an occurrence, the gum at the rear portion of the wisdom tooth will protrude atop the biting surface of such teeth. As a result, a formation of a flap or even a lid of soft tissue will develop, encasing the tooth, which is classified as an operculum. This malady can create extreme difficulty in cleaning, and can lead to a condition labeled as pericoronitis. This condition is a common infection, brought about due to a collection of bacteria and debris lodging beneath the operculum. The opposing second and third molars increase pericoronitis, due to occlusion making adequate hygiene a challenge and improbability. If wisdom teeth extraction is not practiced, in alleviating pericoronitis, a more severe variety of infection can evolve.

Dental implants can be an expensive option when you are looking to replace teeth lost due to an accident or a periodontal disease, especially when you have to foot most of the cost, or even the entire cost for the dental implant procedure out of your own pocket. Dental implant insurance coverage can help you keep out of pocket costs for dental implant surgery to a minimum provided you find an insurance company that will help out with some of the costs involved.

The main problem facing people that are looking strictly for dental implant insurance is that in a large scale, it doesn’t exist. A dental implant is seen as a cosmetic improvement much like having a nosejob or tummy tuck, not as a necessary medical operation that would often be covered by regular insurances. Simply having a good dental insurance plan does not guarantee you that you will have any coverage whatsoever when it comes to getting dental implant surgery. Often times within a dental insurance plan it will be expressly stated that dental implants are not covered, and this is something that you should research before seriously considering dental implant surgery, unless you are prepared to cover the costs yourself.

While there are relatively few companies that offer dental implant insurance explicitly, it is possible that some dental insurance plans will cover some of the costs associated with the work pertaining to the implant and possibly some of the aftercare, only not the implant itself.

It’s important to note that even though dental implant insurance is not widely available, it is possible that you can obtain it, to a degree. In some instances dental insurance offered for a fee or provided by employers may have the possibility of dental implant insurance coverage available; if you foresee the need for dental implants in your near future, obtaining dental insurance that covers implants to a greater extent is well worth considering. Currently there is not any dental implant insurance that offers 100% coverage for dental implant services, but with the right plan you may be able to get your tooth implant surgery for considerably less money out of pocket if you just do a little digging.

Aside from dental implant insurance, there can be found numerous discount dental plans that will often times include lower rates on everyday dental procedures as well as lowering the cost of dental implant surgery significantly. Dental discount plans are not insurance, rather they offer percentage based or flat rate discount amounts on certain procedures and operations in exchange for a monthly or yearly fee. While not every implant dentistry professional will accept dental discount plans, discount dental service plans may be a solid option for you if dental implant insurance coverage is not.

Also worth mentioning are discounts that are sometimes offered by implant dentistry professionals. When considering dental implant surgery and you cannot find a suitable discount dental plan and insurance coverage for dental implants is nowhere to be found, seasonal or new customer incentives offered by implant professionals will go a long way to saving you money on your dental implants.

While dental implant insurance is a rare find, at least presently, consultation with an implant dentistry professional and your dental insurance provider can significantly increase your chances for finding a suitable insurance plan or discount plan that can help make your dental implants affordable.

At one time in life or another, necessity may dictate that you simply need some sort of tooth restoration services unless you want to live out the rest of your life missing teeth. Being of mature age, i.e. older, you might opt for dentures as a cost-effective solution to the permanent loss of teeth, but anyone who is under 70 years of age might want to consider the option of tooth implants; they are often times considered a permanent solution to the missing teeth problem by the people that obtain them and the dental professionals that recommend them.

Now, it’s not so much that dentures can’t be a possible solution; only the constant and ongoing care that accompanies the use of dentures is more of a nagging chore than anything else. With dentures also comes the uncertainty that they might fall out or “slip” at the most inopportune moment, leaving you embarrassed in a populated social gathering, such as at a crowded restaurant or even amongst your closest loved ones, just spending some quality time with friends or family.

In the USA, anyway, it’s almost cliché that a person from an older generation would succumb to the use of dentures. This seems to be the common answer; it’s just what is normally done when someone from older generations is faced with the necessity to replace teeth that have either not been properly maintained, or have need of being replaced due to any number of problems that can occur with 60 year old teeth. However, those traditions were practiced by older generations and don’t have to the norm for today.

In newer generations, starting with Baby Boomers, dentures just aren’t seen as a real option anymore. In today’s world with 60 being the new “45”, you are noticing that many Baby Boomers simply are living life to its fullest. It’s not so common anymore to see granny sitting on the front porch in a rocking chair, whittling the day away knitting a crochet scarf or sweater for her grandchild; you’re more likely to see “grandma” and “grandpa”, who usually opt for different monikers such as “nana” and “papa” and the like, taking lengthy and lavish vacations, sailing on their boats, going on cruises and buying fancy cars; simply enjoying the well deserved fruits of their life.

Now, if someone, regardless of their age, is living life to the fullest, do you really think that dentures are a likely option for this individual? To help you out with that, no, it’s not a likely option. Dentures represent the old world, an older generation; tooth implants are for someone who is living life, yearning to stay young and simply doesn’t want to be held back by the hassles of dentures or the thoughts that indeed, they are getting older. Tooth implants are not only for the older individual, however. No matter what your age, if you’re facing the real possibility of needing tooth replacement, tooth implants might just be the best solution for you as well.

If you’ve come to the point in life where the decision sits at choosing between dentures or tooth implants, in many cases the best choice is to opt for the tooth implants. However, this decision should be made after consulting with a trusted dental health professional as there may be special circumstances that need to be considered regarding your personal situation. For many in your shoes, though, tooth implants are seen as the only way to go when dentures just aren’t an option.

If you’ve done any sort of research on dental implants or dental implant surgery, you’ve likely stumbled upon, or have been earnestly searching for the exact cost of these tooth restoration services. You’ve likely come across figures that stretch in the realm of your current budget’s wildest imagination, with far-fetched numbers prices ranging anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000 or even more. That being said, the cold, hard truth is that these services can be affordable; dental implants really can “cost” a whole lot less than available options, all things considered.

Now, dental implants don’t necessarily cost $50,000 or even $5,000 for that matter. The pricing is really determined by a lot of factors; the region of the country the procedure is performed in, costs of training and equipment maintained by the implant dentistry practitioner, the amount of dental implants that the dentist or oral surgeon performs in any given year as well as any complications regarding your jawbone or jaw structure that would affect the cost of the dental implant procedure. As was mentioned before, however, the true cost of a dental implant is relative.

For instance, let’s say you’re a young individual, in your 20’s or possibly 30’s; heck, let’s say you’re 50 or younger. 50 is still young, right? Anyway, for one reason or another you have need of removing a tooth, several teeth, or you already have lost teeth due to one of life’s general mishaps. Being so young, you really want to maintain full functionality of your mouth, not to mention the emotional scarring that can take place due to missing any number of your oral digits. What are the options available to you?

You could just say, “c’est la vie” and live out the rest of your life with missing teeth. While this is a definite option, if you are in any way missing your front teeth, this in itself could take a large toll on you, not only emotionally, but financially as well. If you think you would be saving money by simply walking around toothless, chances are you’re sadly mistaken. Missing prominent teeth can lead to a poor self-image, which can have a negative effect not only in your personal and social life, but in your professional life as well. Poor job performance, depression and anxiety are all real-world possibilities of a bad self-image due to missing teeth.

You could decide to go with dentures, caps or a dental crown. Caps and crowns are unfortunately not permanent solutions to problematic teeth. While they caps and dental crowns are a viable answer if you simply have broken teeth, or a tooth that is not so far damaged that it can’t be salvaged: feel free to ask anyone who has dealt with a cap repeatedly falling off or the long term dental crown user that has to report back to the dentist every few years due to the crown adversely affecting the surrounding teeth. Dentures, well, they have their own set of problems, mainly the constant care and the underlying fear of slippage at the worst possible time.

You could get dental implants. Dental implants are often times considered a permanent solution to the missing teeth problem. Comparatively affordable, dental implants have a documented long term success rate of over 75%, meaning that in the majority of cases while maintaining proper oral hygiene, dental implants are a life-long investment that requires only a one-time cost; relieving you of the ongoing visits to the dentist to deal with the same issue over and over again.

Affordable dental implants are not only a possibility, they are likely the most affordable and cost effective decision that you can make in terms of a long term solution to your dental issues of today.

Having a tooth replaced or restored can be a heavy financial burden and even emotional drag. Likely the only thing worse than having to deal with tooth restoration is having to deal with the same problematic tooth or teeth over and over again. Implant dentistry can provide the long term, and often times permanent solution to a problematic area of your mouth.

The choices to clear up your problematic areas are abundant; a crown, cap or tooth extraction followed by dentures, dental bridges or even dental implants – which should you choose? Each plausible solution has a variety of positive sides and negative sides, but overall, implant dentistry has proven to be the long term solution to pestering tooth issues.

Almost anybody who has suffered from a failed cap or crown will ultimately tell you that it wasn’t worth the emotional anguish or financial burden, especially if they lacked the proper dental insurance to cover the procedures and had to foot the entire dental bill with their hard earned cash straight out of their pocket. Even with the proper dental insurance, some people who have suffered from a failed tooth cap or crowning can attest to the emotional turmoil of the ongoing visits to their local dentist. Whether choosing to replace the cap or dental crown, or even hesitantly opting for the tooth to be removed after a multitude of costly visits, the bottom line is that all of this could have been avoided by choosing the permanent tooth restoration services that implant dentistry can provide.

When you lose a tooth or even several teeth to any one of life’s tragedies, or even after you’ve come to the decision that a certain problematic tooth simply isn’t worth the risk of ongoing complications, infections, regular dentist visits or a whole array of other money draining and emotionally straining factors; implant dentistry can be seen as a viable fallback to bring your mouth back to its full glory with a proven long term success rate of anywhere between 75% to 95%.

Missing several teeth, or even a single tooth, regardless of the reasoning for their removal or loss can take a toll on many individuals; a person’s race, sex or social-economical status doesn’t really matter. While wisdom tooth removal is a regular occurrence for full grown adults, and less regularly, sometimes even in teens; the loss or removal of a front tooth or highly noticeable set of teeth can have serious adverse effects on one’s emotions. In many cases when a certain tooth or set of teeth can be preserved, the preservation of the original tooth is often the suggested route to take by a dentist. This is usually because of the higher costs associated with implant dentistry, though there may be other variables taken into consideration as well.

Overall, implant dentistry can be seen as a permanent solution for a whole array of tooth or teeth ailments. Caps and dental crowns are generally considered to be a permanent solution, though often times they end up being “longer term” solutions requiring ongoing visits to the dentist for adjustments and even replacement.

As with any minor surgery, considerations for or against implant dentistry should be weighed out with the consultation of either a general dentist or possibly an oral surgeon. At that point, proper decisions for your dental care can be weighed out and discussed between you and a qualified dental professional.

With the continually rising costs of health care and general dentistry practices, dental implants are not immune to the pricing structure necessary to pay for continued education and updated equipment that assure you the most comprehensive care by qualified individuals. That being said, in comparison to general dentistry rates for everyday practices like tooth removal, cleanings and even root canals, dental implants can be considered to be expensive when that option is being taken into consideration against other tooth restoration services.

Unfortunately it’s hard to give a solid average for a single dental implant cost; prices can not only vary by region, but by the amount of training that a particular implant dentistry practitioner has undergone, the amount of dental implants that are performed by a particular practitioner yearly, any complications involved in the tooth implant procedure as well as a number of other cost-effecting factors.

An estimated average for a single dental implant can cost around $4,000 in the USA – but in many cases it seems that a single dental implant can be obtained for anywhere from $1,000 all the way up to $8,000, which is largely dependent on the general dentist or oral surgeon performing the dental implant as well as the current condition of the jawbone where the dental implant is to be placed.

Now, when considering the dental implant cost there are other factors that should be considered as well. A dental bridge is also a likely consideration in circumstances when a dental implant is a viable possibility. A dental bridge, however, is a short term solution in many cases, often requiring ongoing care and even replacement every 7-10 years due to the likelihood that the dental bridge will have adverse effects on teeth surrounding the bridge. In terms of averages, a dental implant is seen as a solid solution with proven, long term success rates as high as 95%. That being said, the overall long term success rate is largely dependent on your after the fact oral hygiene and whether you smoke. Smokers often have less than stellar record for dental implant failure in terms of percentages.

Another consideration added into the long term success of a dental implant is the skill level of the dentist or oral surgeon performing your implant, but due to the certifications and ongoing training required to perform dental implant surgery, this is a small factor at best in regards to the overall average success rate. The dental implant cost often reflects the ongoing training that is required for the procedure, which is partially why a dental implant can cost more than other dental procedures that more or less provide similar solutions.

As with any major or minor surgery consideration, any decisions regarding dental implant surgery should be talked over with a qualified implant dentistry professional. Not only will they be able to address any concerns or questions that you might have regarding the dental implant cost, they will be able to talk with you about other available solutions with both the pros and cons of those procedures.

All things considered, the one-time dental implant cost can often be seen as the most affordable solution for many individuals. Opting for a dental implant can likely provide a permanent solution to your problem, which can help you avoid the long term costs associated with less permanent options for tooth restoration procedures.
