Three Warning Signs of Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Are you beginning to wonder if your wisdom teeth are impacted?  Maybe you’ve had the suspicion for a while now and are just beginning to look into the issue more seriously.  If so, we can help.  At Absolute Smile, we work with a wide range of customers so that they can get to the root of their dental issues.  While some dental problems are easy to fox, others can be a bit more complicated.  This is why it’s important to make sure that you get checked out as soon as you think you might have a potential issue.  If you think that your wisdom teeth might be impacted, there are a few ways to find out by looking into the following symptoms.

1.       Throbbing pain.

For many people, throbbing pain in and around the back of the mouth can be a good indicator of impacted wisdom teeth.  For many people, one of the first signs that their wisdom teeth are impacted is the throbbing pain.  As the condition progresses, the pain oftentimes worsens, as well.  Many people explain their pain as radiating form the back of the mouth.  Many people complain that the pain seems to be focused in the area where their molars and wisdom teeth are situated.

2.      Swollen gums

Another sign that your wisdom teeth might be impacted is swollen gums.  You might notice that your gums are sore and that they bleed, too.  Impacted wisdom teeth can cause potentially serious gum issues, so it’s important to get them checked out if you feel like they might be causing you an issue.  You might notice that your gums are swollen and sensitive to the touch.  Flossing might become difficult because of the discomfort.

3.      Jaw swelling

Most people find that when their wisdom teeth are impacted they have swelling around the gums and the jaw area.  In the beginning, it might not be too noticeable, but after some time your gums and jaw will become visibly swollen and it might even become too painful for you to open your mouth.  In addition to jaw swelling, some people also experience swelling in the shoulder glands and the neck glands.
